"The Steve Wilkos Show" is a syndicated American talk show which is hosted by the former director of security on "The Jerry Springer Show", Steve Wilkos. The show debuted on September 10, 2007. The show's second season premiered on September 15, 2008.

History

The show has Wilkos expanding on his successful "Steve To The Rescue" shows that he did while serving as a substitute for Jerry Springer whenever Springer took breaks or was doing other projects. [ [http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/networktv/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003532417 NBCU to Launch The Steve Wilkos Show; Announces Clearances ] ] The idea of Wilkos having his own show came as a result of this approach, which proved to be so popular with viewers that the producers of "Springer" pitched the idea to NBC Universal to give Steve his own show. In July 2007, Wilkos left Springer to start focusing on his foray into talk television.

According to the "Chicago Sun-Times", show creator and executive producer Richard Dominick was forced from the program and "Springer" by NBCU Domestic Television after encouraging Wilkos to become extremely physical with a guest, and currently Wilkos' wife, Rachelle Consiglio has taken over as the program's executive producer [http://www.suntimes.com/business/feder/1157023,CST-FIN-feder11.article] .

The show

The show is unique in that the host (Steve Wilkos) confronts his guests for their behavior. The topics of the show include child molestation, rape, murder, domestic violence, drug abuse, deadbeat dads, child abuse and prostitution. Lie detectors and Drug tests are regularly used in the series depending on the topic.

Wilkos also insults many of the guests who appear on the show. These include guests who have been behaving in an unacceptable manner as deemed by the surrounding society and the mainstream, such as child molesters and deadbeat dads. Wilkos does not allow guests who have behaved in disregard to social norms in the past to sit on stage or even backstage. Alleged child molesters are also not allowed to sit on stage or backstage. Wilkos tells his guests to leave his stage in either a polite or rude manner depending on the guests behavior in the past.

On an occasional basis, Wilkos will insist that a guest submit to a lie detector test. Wilkos has even let guests read their own results out loud. [The Steve Wilkos Show episode "Heres Your Proof Mother" aired September 25, 2008]

It should be noted that the security guards on the show are the same security guards from "The Jerry Springer Show", though unlike "The Jerry Springer Show", physical guest fights are discouraged, and thus are quite rare.
