WGFS is an Atlanta area AM broadcasting station licensed to Covington, Georgia. The station currently broadcasts at a frequency of 1430 kHz with 3,900 Watts of power during the daytime, and 212 Watts at night using a non-directional antenna pattern. The radio station is considered a Class B AM broadcast station by the Federal Communications Commission. WGFS has applied to the Federal Communications Commission to change its operating frequency from 1430 kHz to 1220 kHz. The application also calls for a decrease in its daytime power to 1,600 Watts, and increase its nighttime power to 500 Watts. The daytime and nighttime signal patterns will change to two different directional antenna patterns. This change will allow sister station WATB (AM) located in Decatur, Georgia to move from its present 1420 kHz operating frequency to 1430 kHz vacated by WGFS. The move of WATB (AM) to 1430 kHz will allow it to substantially increase its daytime power to 50,000 Watts.
