Bournmoor

Bournmoor

Bournmoor is a village in Tyne and Wear, in England. It is situated a short distance from Chester-le-Street. It lies on the edge of the Lambton Estate and contains St Barnabas' Church. Formerly, "Bournmoor" was known as "Burnmoor".

There is some debate within the village as to the spelling of its name. Ordnance Survey maps spell the name as "Burnmoor" and the local primary school is also called Burnmoor Primary School, while road signs spell it "Bournmoor." In addition, its local scout group has been formed since early in the 20th century and still carries the name "Burnmoor" in its title. Furthermore, the village of Burnmoor/Bournmoor is located on a moor above the local burn.

In essence, it is felt by the local community that the local authority has gone against the wishes of local people in renaming "Burnmoor" as "Bournmoor".
