Holmesglen Institute of TAFE

Holmesglen Institute of Technical And Further Education (TAFE) is a tertiary level training institute situated in the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.

History

Holmesglen TAFE was founded in 1982 and has since become one of the largest and most successful institutions of its kind, delivering in excess of 600 courses and enrolling over 50000 students per year.

Holmesglen rapidly expanded to become the largest TAFE institute in the state of Victoria; however, in the late 1990s a round of mergers occurred that was intended to consolidate and streamline the management of numerous institutes who were underperforming financially. Holmesglen was left out of this round of mergers initially, due to its size and reputation for innovative and successful financial management. However in 2001 after [http://www.chisholm.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx Chisholm Institute of TAFE] reported accumulated losses of 15.9 million dollars a decision was made to transfer the control of [http://www.chisholm.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx Chisholm Institute of TAFE] 's Moorabbin campus to Holmesglen. Originally created to deliver vocational training to the building trades, the institute's main campus has a distinctive sawtoothed design to many of its buildings. This feature has been incorporated into the logo design which represents three of the 'teeth' in profile, with a capital letter 'H' created through the use of negative space.

Courses

The range of courses on offer at Holmesglen rapidly increased, and now the institute delivers not just vocational training for trades but also more academic courses in humanities and sciences. Introduction of recent legislation in Australia has opened the door for TAFE institutes to deliver Higher Education courses at Degree level in addition to Certificate and Diploma level qualifications. Holmesglen has embraced this new opportunity with enthusiasm and has developed several entirely new Bachelor's Degrees. Campuses

Holmesglen operates on three campuses: Chadstone (adjacent to Holmesglen train station), Moorabbin and Glen Waverley.

The Chadstone campus is the largest and most widely recognised. It is here that the traditional trades areas are mostly housed in addition to many other course areas.

The Moorabbin campus was acquired from [http://www.chisholm.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx Chisholm TAFE] , prior to that it was part of Barton TAFE and before that stood alone as Moorabbin TAFE. This campus delivers a diverse range of courses, hospitality being one of its most successful.

The Waverley campus is the newest purpose built facility and delivers training in hospitality, childcare, multimedia, animation, filmmaking, tourism and recreation.
