Thirumalaikoil

Thirumalaikoil is a shrine dedicated to Lord Thirumalai Kumaraswamy, Panpozhil near Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu. It was build by Lady Saint Thiruvarutchelvar Sivakami Ammaiyar. Poets Arunagirinather and Achanputhur Subbaiah had written many poems on the name of the Lord. It is a hill shrine, 540 steps of pathway is laid to reach the temple. The hill is adjoint to Western Ghats and Kavira Hills geographically. It is 15 km away from the Famous Lord Kasivishwanathar temple in Tenkasi and Popular kurtallam Falls, Ezhanji Kumarakoil, and Ayikudi Balasubramanya Swami Temple. The temple is 650km far away from Chennai and 90km away from Thiruvananthapuram. The environment around the temple is full of green fields and coconut trees, and many films songs sequences were taken in this beautiful location.

Thiruvarutselvar Sivakami Ammaiyar

Thiruvarutselvar Sivakami Ammaiyar is a pure devotee of Lord Thirumalaikumaraswamy. She is the first and foremost devotee of Thirumalaikumaraswamy, she was born in Neduvayal Achanputhur Village, a beautiful village just away from Panpozhil, Hanuman river is following along the village. Sivakami Ammaiyar was born to Muthuswamy Thevar and Kulalvaimozhi, she was born in wealthy family as well as helpful family to the villagers. The year was not yet clear of Sivakami Ammaiyar, as per the Temples Magazine it was reported that she was lived up to 70 years (1854), if so, she may be born in 1784, as there are no high school education she was not studied, being she was known to read and write. She was married to Kanka muthu of the same village, he was born to Sangamuthu and Uthamiammal, he is a hardworker and agriculturist, He is a spiritual man, a devotee of Lord Annamalaiyar of Thiruvannamalai, he is a man good heart, Sivakami ammaiyar and Kanakamuthu lived in a peaceful life, they served the villagers in many ways, for instance, in rainy season Hanuman river will get flooded due to that village is disconnect from all the nearby villages, as the couple understand the problem and come forward to built a bridge in Hanuman river, still the bridge serving villagers and called as "Kankamuthu Bridge". Sivakami Ammaiyar and Kankamuthu treated all the peoples equally, Sangalimanadan is one of the person doing all the activities of the family, he is from a Low cost community. The couple was not able to have a child, so they treated all the childs of the village as their child. They served many saints and sathus of all the religion, as one of the Muslim saint called "Walar Masthan" came to the village, the couple called and served and told their problems to him, as the saint was a spiritual man, he told that, " I know your problems, as you was not blessed to become a mother, but the Hill top Thirumalai Murugan in the west of this place is your family god go and serve him for the rest of the life", as the couple was confused on the statement of the saint, they started to believe the words of the saint, meanwhile Lord Muruga appeared in a dream to Sivakamiamma and called to come on to Vandadumpottal. As the couple gone there and got a child that is Lord Muruga and told them to built a temple for him at the hill top and disappeared. Sivakami Ammaiyar started to built the temple, In building the temple she met many problems, as on that early ages technology and equipments are not there, It was believed that the temple above 500 feet was surely built by a lot of manpower and great work by Sivakami Ammaiyar. The big temples of the SouthIndia is built by the Kings, they used their force and wealth to built the temple, but Sivakami Ammaiyar was not that much of wealthy, by her hardwork the temple came upon, on building the temple Sivakami Ammaiyar sold all her properties.

Location

The temple is situated above 540 feet in hills, it is having an aerial view to see bunch of Coconut farms, number of windmills around it, water ponds, dam on backside of hill, Tenkasi and Shencottah town view and see from the hill, it is good experience for the visitors.
