Adam Rippon (born November 11, 1989 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, U.S.) is an American figure skater. He is the 2008 World Junior Champion and 2007 Junior Grand Prix Final Champion.

Career

Adam Rippon won the National silver medal on the novice level in 2005. As a result of his strong nationals showing, he was selected to compete at an ISU Junior Grand Prix event, where he placed 6th. Due to his 11th place finish on the junior level at the 2006 Nationals, he did not earn a JGP event for 2006. At the 2007 Nationals, he placed 6th on the junior level.

He changed coaches following the 2007 US Nationals, from Yelena Sergeeva to Nikolai Morozov.

In the 2007-2008 Junior Grand Prix season, Rippon won his first Junior Grand Prix event and won the silver medal at the second, qualifying him for the Junior Grand Prix Final. At the Junior Grand Prix Final, Rippon became the first man to break 200 points at a Junior level competition. He went on the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, where he won the Junior title. This earned him a trip to the 2008 World Junior Figure Skating Championships, where he became the second American man in a row to win the title, and the first man in years to win that title without attempting a triple axel.

The Professional Skaters Association recognized Rippon as having the best men's performance at the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, for his free skate. [ [http://usfigureskating.org/Story.asp?id=41502 Six Skaters Honored with PSA Edi Awards] ]

Rippon has moved up to the senior level for the 2008-2009 season. He is scheduled to compete at the 2008 Skate America and 2008 Cup of Russia for the 2008-2009 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating.
