Janet Andrewartha (16 September,1952) is an Australian actress. She is famous for playing on-going roles in two popular Australian soap operas including that of Lyn Scully in "Neighbours". Although born in America, she does not have the accent. In 2008, she celebrates 30 years as an actress.

Career

Andrewartha is a graduate of the National Theatre Drama School, where she met future Neighbours colleague Jackie Woodburne. [ [http://www.nationaltheatre.org.au/drama/graduates.html The National Theatre Drama School - Graduates ] ]

Television

She first came to prominence when she played the role of scheming Reb Kean in the popular Australian series "Prisoner". Kean was a lead character on the soap for twelve months spanning the 1984 season, with a brief return appearance in late 1985.

Andrewartha is perhaps best known for playing Lyn Scully in another popular Australian series, "Neighbours", a role she played from 1999. She was known in this role for her "bogan" type character and her ditzy nature, unlike many other characters she had played previously. Andrewartha initially appeared alongside Anne Charleston who had previously played her mother Deidre Kean in "Prisoner".

She announced her departure from the show in August 2006. She opted to try something different and spend more time with her daughter during her final year of school. Her final appearance was shown in Australia on December 12 2006. She made a brief return in 2008, appearing in episodes screened in May and June of that year.

She has also worked in the Australian police procedural "Blue Heelers" as Det. Bridget Ryan, "A Country Practice" as Lisa Davis and in the telemovie "Moby-Dick".

Theatre Work

Since her departure from "Neighbours" Andrewartha has worked in London and with the Melbourne Theatre Company, of which she is an ensemble member, in the play "All My Sons" alongside John Stanton. She has appeared in many other plays including:
*"Rising Fish Prayer"
*"Hotel Sorrento"
*"Navigating"
*"Jerusalem"
*"Good Works"
*"Underwear"
*"Perfume and Crash Helmet"
*"A Happy and Holy Occasion"
*"Sex Diary of an Infidel"
*"Love Letters"
*"Framework"*
*"Lysistrata"
*"Ticka Tocka Linga"
*"Once a Catholic".

Andrewartha has been recognised twice by her peers at the Green Room Awards.
