Chief directorate of intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine ( _uk. Головне управління розвідки Міністерства оборони України) or ГУР (HUR), is Ukraine's military intelligence service. It is a subdivision of country's Defence Ministry, and one of the successors of the Soviet GRU.

The current head of the Directorate is colonel Viktor Hvozd. [ [http://www.mil.gov.ua/index.php?lang=ua&part=news&sub=read&id=11077 Новини Управління Прес-служби МО ] ]

The Directorate was earlier headed by Ihor Smeshko, who later served as the Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) (until 2005). The two agencies usually compete in their shadow political influence, and, supposedly, secret police and even foreign intelligence activities.

In 2004, the SBU's Intelligence Department was reorganized into an independent agency called the "Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine" or "SZR". It will be responsible for all kinds of intelligence as well as for external security. As of 2004, the exact functions of SZR, and the respective new responsibilities of HUR, were not regulated yet.
