census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,620 people, 628 households, and 420 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 2,028.7 people per square mile (781.9/km²). There were 676 housing units at an average density of 846.5/sq mi (326.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.31% White, 0.31% African American, 1.36% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.74% of the population.There were 628 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.19.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,336, and the median income for a family was $36,346. Males had a median income of $27,083 versus $20,563 for females. The
