The train was introduced in around 1975 as a
metre gauge train betweenKacheguda , a suburb of Hyderabad,India andManmad , "via"Nizamabad ,Nanded andAurangabad . The train became popular in a short time asManmad Junction was the point to break the journey for further destinations towardsMumbai ,Itarsi ,Bhopal ,New Delhi ,Amritsar ,Howrah ,Nagpur ,Bilaspur ,Lucknow ,Guwahati ,Jabalpur ,Bangalore andAhmedabad .The train was re-introduced as
broad gauge betweenKachiguda andManmad viaBidar ,Parbhani , in 1995-1996, as the gauge conversion betweenVikarabad andParbhani progressed.In 2007, the train reverted to its original metre gauge route via
Nizamabad andNanded which was turned into broad gauge in 2002-2003.When introduced, it was the fastest metre gauge train in India
