Savoy is a village in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,476 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Savoy is located at coor dms|40|3|48|N|88|15|9|W|city (40.063441, -88.252388)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.0 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (4.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.28%) is water.

Savoy shares a border with the neighboring city of Champaign, Illinois, and is less than two miles from the site of the main campus of the University of Illinois. Savoy is a part of the Champaign-Urbana Metropolitan Area.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 4,476 people, 2,032 households, and 1,127 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,899.9 people per square mile (1,122.2/km²). There were 2,099 housing units at an average density of 1,359.9/sq mi (526.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 81.41% White, 4.51% African American, 0.16% Native American, 10.84% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, and 2.26% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.12% of the population.

There were 2,032 households, of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% were non-families. 36.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.14 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the village, the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 84.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $48,500, and the median income for a family was $61,927. Males had a median income of $50,172 versus $30,394 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,949. About 5.7% of families and 9.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.8% of those under age 18 and 1.2% of those age 65 or over.
