Giancarlo Primo

Giancarlo Primo (November 4 1924, RomeDecember 27 2005, Civita Castellana, Italy) was an Italian basketball player and coach.

As a player for the Italian national team, he participated in the 1948 Olympics, 1947 European Championship and 1949 European Championship.

After retiring as a player, he became an assistant coach for the Italian national team, participating in 1960 Olympics, 1964 Olympics, 1968 Olympics, 1959 European Championship, 1963 European Championship, 1965 European Championship and 1967 European Championship. From 1969 to 1979, he was the head coach of the Italian national team, winning bronze medals at the 1971 European Championship and 1975 European Championship. He also coached Italy at 1972 Olympics and 1976 Olympics, 1970 World Championship, 1978 World Championship and 6 Eurobasket tournaments. In total, he coached Italy for 238 games.

After 1979, he coached club teams: Magnadyne Livorno aka Rapident Livorno (1980-1982, won Intercontinental Cup in 1982), Cantù (1982-1983, won European Champions Cup), S.Benedetto Gorizia (1983-1984), Peroni Livorno (1984-1985) and Virtus Roma (1987-1989). In 2007, he was enshrined in the FIBA Hall of Fame.
