Unterhaching inBavaria . He started his career as field player at local clubSpVgg Unterhaching but changed early to the goalkeeper position. At the age of 14 Heerwagen moved to the youth ofBayern München . In this period he debuted in the German Youth National Team and won the German Youth Championship in 2001.SpVgg Unterhaching
At the age of 18
SpVgg Unterhaching offered Heerwagen a professional contract. So he went back to his old club. Heerwagen became first goalkeeper in his first season and promoted withSpVgg Unterhaching in the Second Bundesliga in 2003. Subsequently, 'Haching' delivered poor results in the 2. Bundesliga, narrowly avoiding being relegated again in both 2004 and 2006 before finally dropping into the Regionalliga in 2007, finishing 16th in the table due toCarl Zeiss Jena 's 2-1 win againstFC Augsburg .
