Postal Orders of Gibraltar

British postal orders are currently issued in Gibraltar by the Royal Gibraltar Post Office.

Postal orders

In accordance with the "Postal Order Regulations of 1961", postal orders may be issued for the following sums:-
#The sum of 50 pence; and
#The sum of one pound and any multiple of one pound up to ten pounds

The value of a postal order may be increased by affixing postage stamps not exceeding two in number and not exceeding a total of 49 pence or the equivalent in coinage of the country in which the order is issued. Any such stamp may either be a stamp authorized or required to be used for the purpose of the post office or, if the postal administration of the country in which the order is issued so allows, a current stamp for denoting a rate of postage of that country, but no other stamps may be used.

Royal Gibraltar Post Office

The Post Office is a department of the Government of Gibraltar which has run the postal services for Gibraltar since 1886.cite web|url=http://www.gibraltar.gov.gi/about_gib/postal/postal_index.htm|title=Postal and Philatelic|publisher=Government of Gibraltar|accessdate=2007-08-10] In addition to the normal letter and parcel post services, which include registration and express, the Gibraltar Post Office provides several other services such as EMS (previously Datapost). Post Restante facilities and private P.O. Boxes. The Post Office operates a banking facility on behalf of the Gibraltar Savings Bank, consisting mainly of Ordinary Deposit Accounts. Apart from the British Postal Orders, Gibraltar issued legal tender coins, phonecards are available from the General Counter's.

In 2005 the Gibraltar Post Office was granted the title of "Royal" by Her Majesty the Queen. Gibraltar is now the only Commonwealth or British Overseas Territory outside the United Kingdom that bears this distinction. The Gibraltar Post Office is now known as the Royal Gibraltar Post Office.

These have been reported, but information is extremely sketchy, as the location of the BFPOs is a closely guarded secret in the British Armed Forces for security reasons.
