Sindhi Memon

Sindhi Memon

Sindhi Memons (Urdu: سندھی میمن; Sindhi: سنڌي ميمڻ) are an ethnic group residing in Sindh Province of Pakistan. They speak a dailect of Sindhi. They are primarily involved in agriculture or are high level government officials, unlike other Memons who tend to be businessmen[citation needed].This community of Memons might have originated around the year 1422 at a place called Nagar Thatta, then a capital, in the province of southern Sindh, then in India and now in Pakistan, has been widely accepted.

Sindhi Memons are settled all over the Sindh province. The majority of Sindhi Memons are educated (generally hold white collar jobs) and are well placed in their professions. Lately a number of Sindhi Memons have entered politics and have held important portfolios within the Sindh cabinet as well as the senate and Federal Cabinet. Many Sindhi Memons have also made a name for themselves within the banking industry and other areas of the corporate sector of Pakistan. There are many tribes amongst them, mainly depicting the area they reside in and their lineage. The main clans are Akhund, Jumani, Deeplai, Yousefani and Bachani.

While the Sindhi Memon community has contributed significantly in various fields, in India they are predominantly infamous due to the nefarious criminal and mafia connections of some members of the community. Thus a couple of bad apples have managed to lay waste to the contribution of the entire community.Mushtaq Abdul Razak Memon alias Tiger Memon and Yakub Memon are the most infamous ones.

Deeplai Memon

Deeplai Memons (Urdu: میمن; Sindhi: ميمڻ) are an ethnic group residing in Sindh Province of Pakistan. They speak Sindhi, one of the Indo-Aryan languages.

The Deeplai Memons stem from the village of Deeplo in the Thar desert (or Tharparkar District, Pakistan) which is a mere few miles from the Indo-Pakistan Border. Today, these "Deeplais" are spread across the globe, with large concentrations in the regional town of Hyderabad in Pakistan, and in the Middle East. Deeplais are generally engaged in either the professions, the civil bureaucracy or the business world.

There is even a "Deeplai Town" on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Pakistan. This "town" is generally where well to do Deeplai's live (or have a second home, if they do not live in Hyderabad). Visit www.diplaimemon.com a site dedicated to diplai memons and community.
