"Why Did I Get Married?" is an American play written by Tyler Perry. It stars Cheryl Pepsii Riley as Sheila, LaVan Davis as Poppy, Donna Stewart as Diana, Tony Grant as Troy and Cordell Moore as Mike.

The stage play was adapted into a motion picture by Lions Gate Entertainment, and opened in theaters on October 12, 2007. The feature film version stars Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, and Sharon Leal. Malik Yoba, Michael Jai White and Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Denise Boutte and Keesha Sharp are also playing roles in the film.

Plot

The story takes place at Poppy's cabin (affectionately named "Trudy") for a couples' retreat weekend. Diana and her husband, Terry. Sheila has gained 80 pounds due to being stressed, and Mike verbally and emotionally expresses disgust in her weight gain. So while they are on the plane to get there the flight attendant tells Sheila she has to pay for two seats because ahe is too fat or get off the plane. Mike tells her he will not pay for two seats . and she has to get off the plane. So she does and she drives. The girls are furious when he arrives without Sheila and with Trina. Trina, a single woman, is the villainess of the story. She gets snowed in and she goes to a police station to find directions, but the police that is there, Troy tells her she can't get there until the snow clears. So she stays at the police station for the night.

A fight breaks out and Trina walks out the door, with Mike following her. Once they return, Diana demands that Trina tells Sheila the truth about her affair with Mike. Sheila becomes uncomfortable with all the arguing and tells everyone she is ready to leave. Then the girls convince her not to.

The second act starts a year later. Mike, now divorced from Sheila, has married Trina and brought her along to the annual retreat. Mike indirectly confesses to Terry that he misses Sheila. Troy shows up for the retreat and is surprised to see Mike and Trina. Sheila enters the cabin, sporting a tremendous loss of weight. Later that evening, she tells Diana that Troy and her are now married. Mike and Trina argue over Trina's excessive spending. His business isn't doing as well as previous years.
