Cheshire Oaks

Cheshire Oaks

The Cheshire Oaks is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Chester over a distance of 1 mile, 3 furlongs and 79 yards (2,285 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May.

The event was first run in 1950, and from 1971 to 1985 it held Group 3 status. It serves as a trial for the Epsom Oaks, and the most recent horse to win both races was Light Shift in 2007. The present trophy for the Cheshire Oaks is known as the Robert Sangster Memorial Cup. This honours the memory of Robert Sangster (1936–2004), a successful racehorse owner and breeder.
