Capillaria philippinensis is a species of threadworm that causes intestinal capillariasis.

Life cycle

Eggs --> 1st stage larvae (36-150 micro metre) --> 2nd stage larvae (411-500 micro metre) --> Infective larvae --> Adults

Life cycle in nature: Fish --> Bird --> FishHuman became accidentally involved.

Clinical features

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, muscle wasting, cardiac failure and hypotension.Produce severe disease which may lead to death.The mortality is around 20% within untreated cases.

Differential Diagnosis

Examination of eggs, larvae and adults in feces

Treatment

1. Thiabendazole, 25mg/kg for 30 days

2. Mebendazole, 400mg/day for 15-20 days

3. Albendazole
