Basil Hayward

Carl Basil Hayward (born Leek, 7 April 1928, died 1989) was an English football (soccer) player and manager.

Playing career

Hayward played for Port Vale from 1946 until 1957, making 349 Football League appearances. He then spent two seasons with Portsmouth where he played a further 44 matches, and later played for Yeovil Town, at the time a non-league team.

Managerial career

Hayward managed Gillingham from 1966 to 1971. This was his only known managerial appointment.Cite web
