Guangzhou ,China , Bolo started his martial arts career at an early age while inGuangzhou, China , where he studied under severalkung fu masters. He also tookacrobatics and was a competitive weight lifter; eventually becoming thepowerlifting champion of mainland China. During his early years, Bolo swam toHong Kong from main land China to escape communism. Contrary to popular belief, Bolo was not aShotokan Karate champion, nor did he ever practice this martial art.Bolo met
Bruce Lee while the two were filming aWinston cigarettes commercial. A friendship emerged and Bruce invited him to star in "Enter the Dragon ", where he became known as Bolo.
