The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships. Skaters compete in ladies' singles, men's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing.

The 2003 Worlds were held at the MCI Center in Washington, DC, USA from March 24th to 30th. The compulsory dance was the Austrian Waltz. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men's qualifying groups and the ice dancing compulsory dance were split into groups A and B. Despite the "A" and "B" classifications for the CD, both compulsory groups did the same dance.
