The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships. Skaters compete in ladies' singles, men's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing.

The 2000 Worlds were held at the Palais des Exposition Nice in Nice, France from March 23rd to April 3rd. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men's qualifying groups were split into groups A and B.

This event had originally been awarded to Brisbane, Australia. However, the ISU reassigned the event to Nice in the fall of 1999, allegedly due to failure of the Australian organizers to provide adequate broadcast services.
