The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships. Skaters compete in ladies' singles, men's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing.

The 2004 Worlds were held at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany from March 22nd to 28th. The compulsory dance was the Midnight Blues. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men's qualifying groups and the ice dancing compulsory dance were split into groups A and B. Despite the "A" and "B" classifications for the CD, both compulsory groups did the same dance.
