Let's Paint TV

Let's Paint TV is a Public Access television show in the United States hosted by artist John Kilduff [http://imdb.com/name/nm1796302/] . Many shows are recorded and simply involve Kilduff painting, sometimes on location, and are fairly conventional. However, there are also special live episodes which consist of John Kilduff painting while he runs on a treadmill, cooks or blends drinks, and receives calls from viewers. Some of these live episodes also contain additional tasks such as playing chess, having a mime, playing ping pong, having a strip dancer on, and he sometimes paints special guests who chat with him in the studio.

Kilduff himself is a qualified and exhibited artist, receiving a MFA at UCLA in California, but his aim with the television series is to make people of all skill levels try their hand at painting or other forms of creative self-expression. Kilduff frequently encourages viewers to use very large brushes in order to cover the canvas as quickly as possible before worrying about details, as he feels an empty canvas can be very intimidating to novices.

The show originally began airing on Public Access TV in Los Angeles in 2001 and is now being seen in New York and London. Clips of the show appeared on TV's Naughtiest Blunders #23,#25,#31 hosted by Neil Morrisey in 2005 airing on ITV television network (England). It became more widely known in late 2006 when Kilduff began uploading recordings of episodes (mostly the live ones) onto the online video service YouTube, where it has since become a cult hit and increased his live show's viewership.

The bizarre sight of an artist simultaneously jogging, painting, blending drinks and chatting to guests and painting live models has led some to speculate that the whole show is an ironic piece of performance art. Kilduff denies this and states that he is completely sincere in trying to encourage people to do something creative.

The show is aired on Time Warner public access. John Kilduff has also been seen on The Tyra Banks Show, where he painted Tyra's portrait. He also appeared on the Red carpet for VH1 2006 Big Awards and painted David Hasselhoff's portrait on America's Got Talent season two. [http://letspainttv.blogspot.com]

Although the show is meant to be serious, the cult following of the show is not always watching for the painting and creative ideas. The callers are usually not censored (due to it being live) and there have been such callers screaming profanities, rival gangs bad mouthing other gangs on the show, screaming into the phone, screaming racial slurs into the phone and other such incidences. The callers have also told John Kilduff to "fuck off", tell john to multitask more (and faster), and do different things to his paintings and more.
