Romany media

Romany media started to develop in the last decades, with an evolution influenced by the Diasporic status of the Roma people (living as minority in many countries).

Internet

The scattered status of the Roma people and the relatively recent evolution of the Romany media determined an important role for the Internet as fast and easy accessible means of communication. Roma Virtual Network

"Roma Virtual Network" [ [http://www.valery-novoselsky.org/romavirtualnetwork.html Roma Virtual Network] ] is a public, non-partisan, non-profit grass-roots organization [http://www.valery-novoselsky.org/miracle.html Official recognition] under the umbrella of ERIO [ [http://www.erionet.org/networkmembers.html ERIO’s Network members] ] and of IRU.

It provides the international Romany community and friendly non-Romany organizations and individuals with useful information on Roma issues in a variety of languages via the Internet. Established on 19 July 1999, by Valery Novoselsky, member of IRU [ [http://www.valery-novoselsky.org/iru-parmember.html IRU Parliament Membership of Valery Novoselsky] ] , it has been started as a private initiative and gained the recognition of national and international, governmental and non-governmental NGOs dealing with Roma issues, especially in Europe. It contains 31 electronic mailing lists in 14 languages with a total membership of over 7000 e-mail addresses.

RVN aims to help the cooperation and exchange of information within Roma organizations and individuals, between Roma and non-Roma organizations and individuals and also between Roma NGOs and official institutions. It relates with the variety of Roma-related political, cultural, economic and social issues on local and international levels, aiming to support the improvement of the Roma situation in Europe and other regions of the world. Television

There are Romany TV stations (like "TV Šutel" [ [http://www.lyngsat-address.com/tt/TV-Sutel.html TV Šutel at lyngsat-address.com] ] from Šuto Orizari, Republic of Macedonia) or Romany programs at local TV stations, like , a Romany program presented on a 2 hrs. time/week rented by the Party of the Roma in Romania from Oglinda TV (the other content of this TV station has nothing in common with the Romany program, it just happened to be the one who accepted the lending). In Czech Republic is internet Romany TV - [http://www.romea.tv ROMEA TV] . Most of the Romany TV stations are in Central and Southeastern Europe.

Radio
