He served as the justiciar for King Henry I of England at Shrewsbury, where he oversaw Welsh affairs.Crouch "Reign of King Stephen" p. 55] He had a reputation as an expert on legal matters.Williams "English and the Norman Conquest" p. 157] He died in 1127, with his death being commemorated on January 16, so he probably died on that date. Walter was a canon of London, holding the prebend of Newington, [http://british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=33828 British History Online Prebends of Newington] accessed on October 29, 2007] and William was Archdeacon of London. [http://british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=33802 British History Online Archdeacons of London] accessed on October 29, 2007] On his deathbed, he confessed that he had lied about his tenure of a manor, previously testifying that the held it in fee, when in reality he had it under a lease.Crouch "Troubled Deathbeds" "Albion" p. 34]
