Mutant Zero is a fictional character, a mutant in the Marvel Comics universe. She first appeared in "" #4 as a member of Henry Peter Gyrich's black ops team.

Dan Slott has stated Mutant Zero is secretly a well-known character in disguise [ [http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=127995 Dan Slott: Taking The Initiative - Newsarama ] ] quote|She's a mutant chick who's been cover-worthy many times... When that mask comes off, there will be a 'whoa' among those reading it. People who don't even follow comics regularly will know who it is.

Fictional character biography

Little is known about Mutant Zero at the moment except that she is a mutant. Remarks by Dr. Leonard Samson indicate that she is mentally unstable, and use of her former names could lead to a period of instability. According to Gyrich, Mutant Zero does not exist in any official capacity (Her real name is classified information).According to official record there are 198 mutants in existence post M-Day...Unofficially she is 199.

In "Avengers: The Initiative" #5, she is required to attend, but not stay at the black ops group's meeting, and can only be "activated" once per mission, as seen when she attacks a horde of Death's Head robots that were upon her teammates, before quickly withdrawing.

In "Avengers: The Initiative" #10, she is able to hide herself and Gyrich from KIA in plain sight while whispering "We are not here. He cannot see us."

In "Avengers: The Initiative" #11, she is the only superhuman out of 60 not to be defeated by KIA. She helps Gyrich check out the base, but quickly has to return to the "Zero Room" to reload. Gyrich understands and lets her go.

In "Avengers: The Initiaitve" #17, Mutant Zero is briefly and partially shown without her armor on - while her face still remains unknown, her hair is red. When Trauma comes up with an idea to expose any Skrull still on base by changing into something the Skrulls fear the most and attempts to test that theory on her, he reveals that her worst fear is herself, or rather a "darkness" that is part of her. Mutant Zero immediately punches him out, then goes into battle.
