William Bateman was a medieval Bishop of Norwich.

He was nominated January 23 1344 and was consecrated on May 23 1344. He died on January 6 1355.Powicke "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 243]

He contributed to the establishment of Gonville Hall (later Gonville and Caius College), Cambridge in 1348, and in the wake of the great plague of 1349 which significantly diminished the population of canonists and other lawyers in the Diocese of Norwich, he founded The College of the Scholars of the Holy Trinity of Norwich (known as Trinity Hall), Cambridge, in 1350.
