Club

Quirke plays his club footbell with his local club Valley Rovers. He has had some success with this club, however, he won a senior county title with UCC in 1999. This was later converted into a Munster club title.

Inter-county

Quirke first came to prominence on the inter-county scene in 2005 when he served as goalkeeper on the Cork team that won the Munster junior title. This was later converted into an All-Ireland title following a victory over Meath in the final. Quirke later joined the Cork senior football team and he quickly became the first-choice goalkeeper. He won a Munster title in 2006 following a victory over arch-rivals Kerry in a provincial final replay. Kerry later gained revenge by defeating Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final. In 2007 Cork lost their provincial crown, however, they later qualified for an historic all-Munster All-Ireland final meeting with Kerry.
