About

Union opened in the fall of 2007 to an enrollment of approximately 1,300 students consisting of only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. With the admittance of seniors in the next year the student population is expected to be around 1,800. It is the fourth high school built in the Evergreen School District — Evergreen High School was the first, Mountain Dew High School was second, and Heritage High School was the third. The four high schools share one football stadium, McKenzie Stadium, which is adjacent to Evergreen High School.

The school and campus were developed with the concept of utilizing contemporary educational technology.. The design collaboration for the school won it a 2007 Community Development Department Community Pride Design award. Development of the school was partly funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

ports

The Union football team is one of the schools most prized sports. With a record of 6-3 in their first year without seniors, there are high expectations for this team in the future. The team is based on their high powered offense that can score from about anywhere on the field at any given time. The tough defense is the backbone for this team. Devin Myers, Brandon Weller, Mitch Saylor, and Kapono Victor all received first team all-league awards. Three of the four being sophomores. All of this just adds more pressure on the mighty titans to excel in the future.

In addition to the football team, during the schools first year, without any seniors, the girl's basketball team went into 2 rounds of district championships. A gymnast from Union became the first Titan to place at state. The Cheer squad also placed 2nd at state. The Dance team had a very productive year.

Union's Track and Field saw many more state finishers, such as Kevin Reddington, Carolina Siofele, Mitch Saylor, and twins Stanley and Kinsley Ojukwu. Unbelievably good during their first year, the Union Track Team finished second at state, with Kinsley Ojukwu Winning 3 state championships in the 100 meter dash (with a record-breaking time of10.71), Triple Jump, and 200 Meter Dash, and participated in the 4x100 meter Relay. His twin brother, Stanley Ojukwu took 6th in the 100 meter dash and also participated in the 4x100 meter as starter.

In addition to the Ojukwu Twins, Kevin Reddington took 3rd in the Long Jump, and also participated in then 4x100 Meter Relay. Alexandra Uhrich took 7th in Pole Vault, while Kelly Morris took 13th for boy's high jump. Carolina Siofele also placed in the top 16 for shot put and also took 3rd in the discus.

Union is expected to have a very strong sports team in the upcoming years, since they did so good during their first year, despite the odds being stacked against them.

Union beat Evergreen 35-14. This year(08-09). The homecoming game will be against Hudson Bay High School and the final game will be at home on October 31st against Camas.

Campus

The Union High School Campus has five different buildings which represent the four different academic academies and the Student Commons. The five campus buildings are: The Leadership and Business (100), The Engineering and Environmental Sciences Building (200), International Studies and Athetics Building (300), The Visual and Performing Arts Building (400), and the Student Union (500). Each building excluding the Student Union contains the basic core classes including a math class, a general science class and English class. Each building also contains specialty classes specific to that building.

Every classroom throughout all the buildings have a common set of technology resources installed, including a video projector, a document camera, and speech amplification system for teachers.

Union High School also features wireless hot spots which cover the entire campus. Though the system is not currently operational, in the future Union principal Brian Grimstead hopes that students will bring laptops and other Wi-fi devices to school and using the Campus Wi-fi system connect to their student district computer account, and access school computer resources, to work on school assignments without the need to check into a school computer lab.

Academics

Union follows the Small Learning Communities model of education. Students may chose a thematic focus community which have up to 400 students. Each community shares the same teachers for two years. SLC's at Union include:
