Soan Sakaser Valley

Soan Sakaser is a scenic valley situated in northern Punjab, Pakistan. Green hills, springs and mild weather are its charm.

Soan is a Sanskrit word meaning beautiful. Sakaser is compund of Saki and sar. Saki related to Sakia or Buddha and sar is pond. Below this mountain, Uchhali Lake is also called saki mani Gotem ( Buddha's) pond.

Soan Sakaser is situated on the juncture Mianwali, Khushab and Chakwal districts. On the north of this valley is Tehsil Tala Gang's area Pakhar; on the east side is tehsil Chakwal's area Venhar; on the south side hilly area of tehsil Khushab; and on east side, Mianwal tehsil are situated.

The valley is 47 miles long and 12 miles wide. Geographically it is located in the Salt Range area. Water of this area could not drain and many lakes have been formed. Two of them are famous: Khabikki Lake and Uchhali Lake. It is surrounded by mountains and Sakaser is the highest and its height is 4990 feet.The Swaan stream and the Soan valley or Soan Sakaser valley or two different names.

History

Soan Sakaser is inhabited by man since ancient times and fossils of that period have been found. Relics of Hindu Buddhist, Moghul, Sikh, and British periods have been found here.

Nowshera is its main village. There some good parks for outing i.e. Sodhi Park, Kanhati Park. Some very famous people of Urdu Language are belong to Soan Sakaser Valley like Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi (Unga), Abdul Qadir Hassan (Khora).
