Eamon Scanlon

Eamon Scanlon (born 1954) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He is currently a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Sligo-North Leitrim constituency. A butcher and businessman from Ballymote, he was elected in the 2007 general election. He was previously a member of the 22nd Seanad Éireann, when he was elected by the Agricultural Panel in 2002. He was a member of Sligo County Council from 1991 to 2003, representing the Ballymote Electoral Area.

Personal Details

Eamon Scanlon is a native of Ballymote, Co.Sligo. He is married to Ann and they have six children. Eamon Scanlon is a butcher by trade and business owner since 1975. Subsequently, he opened a business called 'Eamon Scanlon & Sons Auctioneers, Valuers and Estate Agents. Eamon Scanlon is a member of the North Western Health Board, Sligo County Council, County Sligo VEC, the Governing Body of Letterkenny Institute of Technology, the Sligo/Omagh Cross Border Partnership, the Local St Vincent De Paul, the Ballymote GAA and the Ballymote Community Enterprise Board.

Political Record

Eamon Scanlon has served the Fianna Fail Party at all levels since 1984. He spent seven years on the National Executive and was the Director of Elections for Matt Brennan. Eamon Scanlon has been a TD since 1981 and was elected to Sligo County Council in 1991, representing the Ballymote Electoral Area and headed the poll in 1999.
