The Live Earth concert in Rome took place on the 7th of July 2007 at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. It was part of a series of high profile concerts (organised by Al Gore and Kevin Wall, which took place across the globe to raise awareness about climate change. The concert was backed by the Vatican, and was the Catholic church's contribution to the Live Earth events.

The Concert

During the first part of the concert, which took place outside the basicica, various works by Michael D'Alessandra and Cristiano Serino were performed by the Bernini Quartet and Michael D'Alessandra (piano). The second part of the concert, of sacred music, took place inside the church. Performing were the London Oratory School Schola, Christiano Serino, Michael D'Alessandra and The Rome Philharmonic Orchestra. The choir and orchestra performed "Vexilla Regis" by Michael D'Alessandra, followed by Christiano Serino's "The Seven Last Words" (a concerto for choir, orchestra and cello solo) and finally D'Alessandra's "Missa" and "Gloria".

The concert was a follow up to one performed at Sant'Anselmo in May. There, the London Oratory School Schola and the Rome Philharmonic Orchestra premiered Michael D'Alessandra's "Missa" under the baton of Christiano Serino.

In the media

The concert was broadcast either in full or in part by many television and radio networks. The concert was broadcast in Italy, America, Australia and New Zealand, and a short clip was also shown on BBC One in the UK. Articles about the concert also appeared in The Tablet and The Catholic Herald.
