American Viticultural Area centered around theSan Francisco Bay Area ofNorthern California . The AVA includes the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Francisco and San Mateo as well as parts of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. The AVA was created in 1999 and encompasses over convert|1500000|acre|km2.
