Elvira Sakhipzadovna Nabiullina (Russian: Эльвира Сахипзадовна Набиуллина; Tatar Cyrillic: Эльвира Сәхипзадә кызы Нәбиуллина, Latin: Elvira Səxipzadə qızı Nəbiullina; born 29 October 1963) is a Russian economist who was appointed as Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Russia on September 24, 2007.[1] She is an ethnic Tatar born in Ufa, Bashkortostan.

Education

Nabiullina graduated from the Moscow State University with an economist's degree in 1986.[2]

Career

In 1991–1994 she worked with the Science and Industry Union and its successor, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.[2] She moved to state service in the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade in 1994, reaching the level of Deputy Minister in 1997, and leaving the service in 1998.[2] For the next two years she was associated with non-governmental think tanks like German Gref's Center for Strategic Development, before returning to the Ministry in 2000–2003 as its First Deputy.[2] Between 2003 and September 2007 Nabibullina chaired the Center for Strategic Development and the commission for Russia's 2006 presidency in G8.

Government

On September 24, 2007 she was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade, replacing Gref.[1][2]
