Lawrence Schimel

Lawrence Schimel (b. October 16, 1971) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer, translator, and anthologist whose work frequently deals with gay and lesbian themes, and with Jewish themes. He was born in New York, and received his B.A. in Literature from Yale University. Schimel is a member of the National Book Critics Circle and the Academy of American Poets. His is a founding member of the Publishing Triangle, an organization of lesbians and gay men in the publishing industry, which he chaired for two terms (1996-1998).

His work has received the Lambda Literary Award and the Rhysling Award, and has been nominated for the Frecracker Alternative Book Award, the Small Press Book Award, ForeWord Book of the Year Award, the Spectrum Award, and a number of other publishing awards. It has translated into Basque, Catalan, Czech, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, and Spanish.

Footnote: Lawrence Schimel is also a word geek and a champion at Prolific. He has won many an acclaimed award in this venture which has brought him worldwide recognition.

Schimel currently lives in Madrid, Spain.
