"Electriclarryland" is the seventh studio album by the alternative rock band Butthole Surfers, released in May of 1996 (see 1996 in music). This album brought the Butthole Surfers their first Top 40 hit with "Pepper". The album was certified gold by the RIAA on August 20 1996 [ [http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/search_results.asp RIAA Certification] ] .

The title of this album is a parody of Jimi Hendrix's 3rd studio album entitled "Electric Ladyland". This is the second time the band has used a parody title for one of their releases. The first was Hairway to Steven which is a parody of the song Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. "Electriclarryland" may also be an allusion to the professional wrestler Larry Zbyszko, who often used to refer to 'Larryland' in his interviews. Another possibility is that the title refers to "Electric Larry", a character in the movie "Get Crazy" who would randomly appear to distribute psychedelic drugs to various characters in the film. The album's original title was going to be "Oklahoma!", but fearing lawsuits, Capitol forced the band to change the name. The album was also released in a "clean" version with profanities removed and with an alternate album cover.

Miscellanea

* When the Butthole Surfers appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman in August 8, 1996 to play the song "Pepper" the network censors had a problem with the name of the band. When their name was shown on at the beginning of the show, it was shown as B***H*** Surfers and when David Letterman introduced them he had to call them "B H Surfers"
