Bell Junior High School, more often called Bell, is a middle school serving grades 6-8 in the in the Paradise Hills neighborhood of San Diego.

History

The school first opened doors in 1969 and was named after American inventor Alexander Graham Bell. For 2006, a school Accountability Report Card list student demographics with 39.5% Filipino, 36.2% Hispanic, 19% Black, and 5.5% White. An Academic Performance Index in 2006 place it schoolwide at 681 where 800 is the California State goal. Uniforms became mandatory in the 2007-2008 school year due to the fact of inappropriate clothing and gang emblems.

Landfill

Before opening its doors, part of the site was designated a sanitary landfill known by various names "Bell Junior High School Landfill", "Paradise Valley Landfill" and "Sweetwater II Landfill".
