Overview

Raymour’s Furniture Company, the predecessor of Raymour & Flanigan Furniture, was established by brothers Bernard and Arnold Goldberg in 1947.

Beginning with a single store in downtown Syracuse, N.Y., today Raymour & Flanigan Furniture is the largest furniture retailer in the Northeast with more than 4,000 associates and 82 showrooms throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

History

Family owned and operated by brothers Bernard and Arnold Goldberg, Raymour's Furniture Company, the predecessor of Raymour & Flanigan Furniture, was established in 1947 by a single store in downtown Syracuse, NY.

In 1972, current CEO and President Neil Goldberg joined the family business. By the late 1970s, Raymour's had expanded to four stores, and both Steven Goldberg, Neil’s brother, and Michael Goldberg, Neil’s and Steven’s cousin, joined the company.

By 1990, the company had become the largest furniture retailer in New York State with the addition of 14 locations in Western New York. Throughout the decade, the company expanded into New York’s Capital District, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New England by opening new showrooms and distribution centers in these markets.

In 2005, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture entered the New York Metro market by launching new showrooms in cities throughout the region, including locations in Westchester and Middlesex counties.

In 2007, the company's 60th year of operation, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture purchased Alpert’s Furniture, thus expanding its market to Rhode Island. New York Metro market penetration also continued with the addition of a Manhattan showroom.In December 2007, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture acquired 18 Levitz Furniture store locations in the New York Metro market.

Product Lines and Manufacturers

Raymour & Flanigan Furniture sells living room furniture, bedroom furniture, mattresses, kid’s furniture, dining room sets, home entertainment furniture, home office furniture and decorative accent pieces.

The company’s product line includes Berkline, Broyhill, Clayton Marcus, Cindy Crawford Home Collection, H. M. Richards, Kincaid, La-Z-Boy, Legacy, Natuzzi, Sealy, Stanley, Stearns & Foster, Universal and Vaughan-Bassett.

Industry Awards

In April 2001, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture was named “Retailer of the Year” by the National Home Furnishings Association.

In 2004, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture received the “Retailer of the Year Award” from Furniture Today.

In 2007, Raymour & Flanigan Furniture was named "Newsmaker of the Year" by Home Furnishings Business.

Community Involvement

Raymour & Flanigan Furniture has annually supported children’s and women's educational and health-related causes throughout the communities in which it operates, including Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.

In 2007, the company recycled:

• 700 thousand pounds of Styrofoam
• 13.2 million pounds of cardboard
• 1.3 million pounds of plastic
