The Administrator of Ascension Island is the head of government and representative of the Governor of Saint Helena in Ascension Island. The role of the Administrator is to chair the territory's Island council which consists of 6 elected members. As a dependency of the British overseas territory of Saint Helena, the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, with the Governor of Saint Helena appointed by the British government to act as her local representative. However, as Ascension Islandis over 800 miles away from Saint Helena, an Administrator is appointed as the Governor's representative on the Island.
The current Administrator is Michael Hill, who took up the office in September 2005.
The Administrator does not have his own flag, as Ascension Island does not have its own coat of arms. It is traditional for the Governor, Civil Commissioner or Administrator of a British overseas territory to use the Union Flag defaced with the territory's coat of arms as their flag.
