The Emmbrook School is a co-educational comprehensive school located in Emmbrook, Wokingham, Berkshire, England, for students between 11 and 18 years of age. There are 1,138 students at the school, with nearly 200 in the Sixth Form.

On Tuesday 3rd June 2008 the school was flooded again after substantial rainfall. This resulted in students being sent home early on the Tuesday and were not allowed back into school until Thursday 5th June. Head Teachers

Nigel Matthias

The head was appointed in early 2006, and took up the post in September 2006. Since then he has begun planning the modernisation of The Emmbrook, most notably the proposed change to the school's pastoral care system.

Developments

The Emmbrook is preparing for a reorganisation from a horizontal (year group) to a vertical (college) pastoral system. Final approval from the Governing Body is pending but it is highly likely to be granted. The changes will include:
* heads of college replacing the current year coordinators
* creation of 4 academic monitoring posts
* tutor groups of 25 students, 5 from each age group
* reorganisation of the school day

Tirabad

The Emmbrook School, along with Maiden Erlegh and Charters, jointly owns an outdoor education residential centre located in the Welsh village of Tirabad, Powys. Students from years 7-10 and the Sixth Form have the opportunity to spend a week at the centre once a year, the centre offers climbing, sailing, canoeing, caving, orienteering, environmental and field studies.

Sixth Form students from the three trust schools (Emmbrook, Maiden Erlegh and Charters) jointly support the annual New Futures trip, offering students with disabilities to chance to experience Tirabad. These volunteer students raise funds through charity work and then attend the trip to provide support for the younger children.

The house system

The students and staff are divided into four houses:

Emmbrook relocation

Wokingham Borough Council proposed the relocation of The Emmbrook School to the south of the borough in response to the need for more school places south of Wokingham. The plan was to build a new school in Finchampstead and relocate the Emmbrook School to this site. The Emmbrook site would then be converted into a Sixth Form college. Following an intense campaign, the move was abandoned. [ [http://www.emmbrookrelocation.co.uk/the_council's_proposals.htm Residents' Website] ]
