East Carolina Railway

East Carolina Railway

The East Carolina Railway was a short-line railroad that interchanged at Farmville, North Carolina, with the original Norfolk Southern Railway. The railroad was organized and initially presided over by Henry Clark Bridgers, Sr. Henry was the nephew of Robert Rufus Bridgers, who was the president of the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad.

Based on knowledge of Bridgers' other activities, including being the president of the First National Bank in Tarboro, as well as banks in Conetoe, Pinetops, Macclesfield, Fountain and Hookerton one can safely guess that the railroad followed a route roughly from Tarboro to Kinston by way of all the towns mentioned above.

The East Carolina Railway apparently shut down in 1965.

There stillwhen exists a railroad diamond crossing in Farmville that can be seen from aerial photos
