European route E751

European route E751 is a road part of the International E-road network. It begins in Koper, Slovenia and ends in Opatija, Croatia.

From the start in Koper, E751 follows the G11 main road to the Croatian border at the Dragonja and Kaštel border crossings. Upon crossing the border, the route follows the B9 expressway (part of the Istrian Y expressway network) through its entire length. On the B9, the expressway between the Buje exit and Kanfanar interchange is still just a semi-highway, with only one lane in each direction, without a highway median. Nevertheless, all interchanges are grade-separated. South of Kanfanar, B9 is a full-fledged four-lane road. The expressway usually has a speed limit between convert|100|km/h|abbr=on and convert|110|km/h|abbr=on. At the Pula interchange, B9 ends and E751 continues along the Croatian State Route 66 along the Istrian coast. Passing through numerous small towns, the scenic drive ends in Opatija. Motorists not planning to stop in Pula usually transfer to B8 expressway at Kanfanar interchange taking a much faster and shorter route. B9 incorporates the tolled Mirna viaduct, while B8 incorporates the Učka tunnel, a toll tunnel.

The traffic on E751 is usually composed of tourists and other visitors coming to Istria. Transit motorists travelling through Italy or Austria to the Dalmatian coast tend to avoid the E751 road and take a shorter route to Rijeka by E61 road through Slovenia and A7 highway through Croatia. This route is also cheaper, since car drivers pay 14 kn (about € 2.00) on the Mirna toll viaduct, but only 5 kn (about € 0.70) at the Rupa toll plaza.
