- Gustavo Cochet
Gustavo Cochet was a painter,
engraver , andwriter who worked betweenBarcelona and Rosario. He was born in Rosario, in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina onMay 6 ,1894 and died inFunes ,Santa Fe Province, Argentina onJuly 27 ,1979 .Childhood
His father was French, teacher in a rural elementary school located between Esperanza and
San Jerónimo Norte , in the province ofSanta Fe, Argentina . His mother was anArgentine , and his grandmother was indigenous. He spend his first years in elementary school in the countryside. His father was then transferred to Carlos Pellegrini and then to Maciel, both in Santa Fe. In Maciel, Cochet began to work an apprentice telegraphist. In 1912 he moved to Rosario to dedicate himself to painting while working as a telegraphist in the postal office. He studying with the painterCésar Caggiano , and met other contemporary painter inBuenos Aires . In 1915, he travelled toBarcelona , and in 1917 he worked various positions including an increasing exposure to thevanguard movement .Professional Development
* 1919: First exposition, in the Dalmau Gallery in
Barcelona .
*1920: Moves toParis and marries Francisca Alfonso.
* 1921: Joins the French army for a year, after which his first son is born.
* 1923: FirstParis exposition, shows restored paintings. Begins to gain consistent galleries to show his work in.
* 1935: Participated in theIberian Anarchist Federation , speaking and reflecting on the rights of artists in a revolution.
*1939: Returns to Argentina
*1941: Named Professor of Painting at a new School inSanta Fe, Argentina , where he lives until 1946 and publishes the book Entre el llano y la sierra (Between the flatlands and the mountains).Museum
His children, neighbors, friends, and others have worked to build a museum in his honor, now standing in
Fulnes, Santa Fe .External links
