The Chicago Weekly is a student-written alternative weekly at the University of Chicago that promotes arts and culture on the South Side of Chicago through coverage and criticism. The paper also follows South Side news stories that are ignored by mainstream media. The paper is published every Thursday during the academic year, and includes feature-length narrative journalism, arts criticism, essays, and a weekly calendar of cultural events.
In addition, Chicago Weekly enjoys a mentoring relationship with the Chicago alt-weekly Newcity, founded and run by University of Chicago alumni Brian and Jan Hieggelke. The Weekly used to be called the Chicago Weekly News until insolvency in late 2002 forced that publication to reorganize. Chicago Weekly News editors, with the help of University of Chicago officials, brokered a deal in which New City would publish the newly christened Chicago Weekly, which started publication in January 2003. By the terms of the deal—still in effect—a copy of New City would come inserted in the middle of each issue of the student alt-weekly. [1][2]
The office of Chicago Weekly is located in the basement of the University of Chicago's Reynolds Club.

REorientation
REorientation is an annual festival of the arts hosted by Chicago Weekly at the University of Chicago. The party is designed to raise awareness of arts organizations on campus while introducing students to arts opportunities throughout the Chicago and the South Side. In the past, acts have included Davey von Bohlen from the seminal act The Promise Ring, Josh Caterer from Smoking Popes, Bang! Bang!, STAR, and Michael Columbia. Student organizations that have participated in the past include MODA (a premier fashion organization), FOTA (Festival of the Arts), Fire Escape Films, Gingarte Capoeira, the University of Chicago Bhangra Team, Occam's Razor (improv comedy), and Le Vorris and Vox Circus.
