Tuniac is a free, open source (BSD licence) Audio player and management application.

Tuniac is a contuniation and amalgamation of several previous works including 'gratisAudio' and 'SuperSonic'. Both of which were test applications for specific functionality (gratisAudio being the media management and SuperSonic being the audio engine)

History

Development was started some time between 2002 and 2003 by Tony Million. It was made available to the public in opensource form in or shortly after October 2003, although a private closed beta was in progress the whole time.

Tuniac's updates slowed in 2004, and eventually ended. Finally being picked up by enthusiast users Brett and Blur who knew of the project and took it upon themselves to fix bugs and continue development after the discontinuation of the Sonique media player. Blur adding major features after the departure of Tony with Brett fixing minor issues.

Tony rejoined the project after purchasing a PC during Apple's Power PC to Intel transition in 2005. At this time 64-Bit compatibility was added and the audio engine updated to support more than 2 channel audio output. Tony also began work on Tuniac 2 a complete rewrite of Tuniac. The Tuniac2 project was never completed as Tony again left Tuniac in 2006 when he switch his desktop over to Mac OS X. Around this time Blur also left the project for unknown reasons. With no lead developers left Brett also finished working on Tuniac releasing the last build of Tuniac on the 5th of March 2006.

The project once again lay dormant until mid January 2008 when Brett added a new tag reader using taglib based on code from the taglib and Tuniac 2 projects. Tony rejoined Brett in February 2008 to yet again continue work on Tuniac.
