Tony Moclair

Tony Moclair

Tony Moclair is an Australian actor, writer and comedian. He has worked on various different Australian radio networks, often appearing in character rather than as himself.

Radio

3RRR Breakfasters

Tony Moclair, along with Chris Hatzis and Julian Schiller have hosted the long running breakfast program on 3RRR, The Breakfasters.

Guido Hatzis

Guido Hatzis is a Greek-Australian comic character created by Tony Moclair and Julian Schiller and voiced by Moclair. Guido appeared originally in the context of Schiller and Moclair's radio program "Crud" on the Triple M network. Several albums have been released in the name of Guido Hatzis, including Do Not Talk Over Me in 2000, Whatever in 2001 and Deported in 2002. Most of Hatzis's comedy involves making prank calls that are usually centred on outrageous claims about his looks and abilities, Greek stereotypes, and extreme rudeness. Moclair appropriated the last name "Hatzis" from friend and sometime producer of the "Crud" program, fellow broadcaster and actor Chris Hatzis.

Restoring the Balance

Restoring the Balance is a satirical radio segment that occasionally appears on Australian radio station Triple J, which attempts to display the contrasting political views between the conservative Australian Howard government, and the majority of the Left wing government-funded Triple J radio station. The premise of the show suggests that the station was forced by the ABC board to broadcast a segment of right wing political views in order to "restore the balance". The show was broadcast sporadically on Sunday afternoons during 2004, and a new series started broadcasting on 25 February 2007.

The show features young Liberal Stirling Addison and young National Tom Thomlinson. The pair are played by Julian Schiller and Tony Moclair. They represent the more affluent end of Australian society - Addison from the city, Thomlinson from a farming area. The characters portrayed on the show are extreme in their views, which has resulted in complaints from callers who do not realise the show is a parody.

Stirling Addison returned to Triple J on Sunday evenings to host a new series of Restoring the Balance (apparently without Thom Thomlinson as a co-host). Sunday Night Safran, the timeslot's regular show was put on hiatus while John Safran travelled to America. In character, Stirling insisted that this change was instead approved by the ABC board due to the current segment being "too Semitic", and displaying "a lack of traditional right-wing values".

Following Sunday Night Safran's return, Moclair continued to record minute long pieces of Stirling Addison espousing his right wings views of the week's events for Hack and for podcast.

Nova 91.9 Adelaide Breakfast

In August 2004, Schiller and Moclair signed on to do breakfast radio at Nova 91.9, a new Adelaide station.

DJ Domm

In October 2007, Triple M launched a new podcast only show hosted by Tony's new character DJ Domm [ [http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/shows/djdomm/index.html DJ Domm - The Online Audio Assassin] ] .

The show was canceled by Triple M after Episode 21 and since April has disappeared from the Triple M Website.

774 ABC Melbourne

Along with Rachel Berger, Moclair has been hosting breakfast on 774 ABC Melbourne over the 07/08 Summer.

Tony is currently a writer on Shaun Micallef's Newstopia on SBS. He has made appearances on the ABC's The Einstein Factor as part of the Brains Trust as well as a contestant on Joker Poker on Channel 10.
