- Stan Cornyn
Stan Cornyn (born July 8, 1933) is the author of "Exploding: The Highs, Hits, Hype, Heroes, and Hustlers of the Warner Music Group" (ISBN 978-0380978526). He also has written three privately-published family genealogy books (all in the Library of Congress).
Career
Cornyn began working for
Warner Bros. Records in 1958. He left theWarner Music Group in 1990 to live an office-free life. During his Warner years, he'd advanced to Executive VP ofWarner Bros. Records ; then to Senior VP of theWarner Music Group ; and finally Founder and CEO of Warner New Media withinTime-Warner . He is widely remembered for his years heading up Warner-Reprise's Creative Services department, writing innovative ads and other marketing approaches.He was awarded the
Grammy Award for Best Album Notes in 1966 for Frank Sinatra'sStrangers in the Night and again in 1967 forSinatra at the Sands . He was nominated in all for fiveGrammy Awards .He co-authored the screenplay for
Warner Bros. ' 1970 filmThe Phynx .In 1991 he was asked to lead the short-lived computer games division of
Media Vision , Inc.Education
Cornyn is a graduate of
Monrovia High School ,Pomona College , attendedYale Graduate School , and received a Masters in Theatre from theUniversity of California at Los Angeles in 1962.Family
Cornyn was twice married:
• To the late Gail MacCrystall, by whom Cornyn has son Christopher Cornyn (m. Robyn Freedman, with daughter Kate and son Shay Cornyn); residents of Woodside, CA.• To Theadora Davitt-Cornyn, by whom son Thomas Guy Cornyn II, Chief Information Technology officer at Santa Monica's Angeles Clinic.
Stan Cornyn currently resides in
Carpinteria, California with longtime companion Meg Barbour, where Cornyn continues to write.External links
