Participating Nations and Results

Miss Universe 1973 was held at the 2,000-year-old amphitheatre of Odeon of Herodes Atticus, at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece on July 21, 1973. Miss Philippines Margarita Moran, a college student from Maryknoll College in Manila (now Miriam College), fashion model and the granddaughter of a former Philippine president, was crowned Miss Universe 1973 by outgoing Miss Universe 1972, Kerry Anne Wells of Australia. There were 61 delegates from around the world who competed.

Maria Margarita Roxas Moran was picked as Miss Photogenic during the preliminary judging. Moran became the pageant's second winner from the Philippines (Gloria Diaz won the title in 1969), beating out early favorite and first runner-up Amanda Jones of the United States.
