CAMPS

Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System or CAMPS is an infrared countermeasure against anti-aircraft missiles, specifically designed to defend civilian aircraft flying under convert|15000|ft|m against MANPADs.

The system was developed by Saab Avitronics, Chemring Countermeasures and Naturelink Aviation.cite web|url=http://www.epicos.com/epicos/portal/media-type/html/user/anon/page/default.psml/js_panename/News+Information+Article+View?articleid=74285&showfull=true|title=Saab's New Protection System for Civilian Aircraft Successfully Demonstrated|date=2007-03-15|publisher= [http://www.epicos.com epicos.com] ]

The decoys use a pyrophoric substance that burns at a relatively low temperature, thereby avoiding any fire safety concerns associated with conventional pyrotechnic military flares, such as those used by a similar Israeli system [cite news|url=http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3221013,00.html|title=Europe objects to El Al's anti-missile shield|publisher=Ynetnews] . The onboard processor uses neural network pattern recognition algorithms to classify potentials threats detected by its infrared sensors.cite web|url=http://products.saab.se/PDBWebNew/Generic.aspx?Entrance=Product&ProductCategoryId=272&ProductGroupId=375&ProductId=1349|title=CAMPS - Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System|publisher=Saab|accessdate=2008-03-04] The system was successfully demonstrated at the Overberg Test Range in March 2007.
